In residency with project Bent out of shape, dance production created and performed by DEED (Mattias Ekholm and Suzie Davies). Premiere Spring 2018.
We are the result of our history and our history defines who we are. Our bodies are influenced by our daily life experiences, our memories and our emotions. What happens when you are subjected to a life-changing event or illness and the vocabulary of your every day life suddenly changes, forcing you to re-evaluate your identity?
DEED are interested in researching the emotional and physical states linked to an altered set of circumstances, and a sensitive body no longer in control. Looking at the difference between a healthy and a compromised body, and how we adapt to violent change.
Mattias is a freelance dancer and choreographer who runs the company DEED together with Suzie Davies. He graduated from Balettakademien in Stockholm in 1993, after which he joined Carte Blanche in Bergen where he remained until 2003. During this 10-year period he also moved to Finland and began a long and close collaboration with the choreographer Kenneth Kvarnström, which continued until 2003 and resulted in several world tours and television productions. Mattias also danced with the Helsinki City Theatre under Kenneth Kvarnströms direction. Since 2007 Mattias has been a part of Ingun Bjørnsgaards Prosjekt (IBP) with whom he tours regularly and works both as a performer and rehearsal director. He is currently employed by Skuespiller og Danseralliansen in Oslo.
