On January 23, the 49th edition of the Göteborg Film Festival opens with the world premiere of The Beekeeper, directed by Marcus Carlsson. The opening will take place both on site in Gothenburg and in cinemas across Sweden, as well as online in the festival’s digital screening room. We are delighted to announce that we will be part of this opening day and will be screening this year’s opening film at Vitlycke-CPA on January 23 at 7:00 PM! A unique opportunity to see the film in Tanumshede!

“Biodlaren” opens the festival
“The Beekeeper is a quiet and deeply moving drama about a father and a daughter who, in different ways, carry a shared grief. With a gentle touch, the film portrays both the everyday and the existential—from the hum of the beehive to a relationship on the brink of collapse. It is a story of loss, silence, and a longing for closeness, but also of the hope that can grow when one dares to face what is difficult. The film is set in the small community of Åmotfors in Värmland, and Adam Lundgren delivers an impressive performance in the role of the beekeeper Olof.
— We are so happy to open the Göteborg Film Festival 2026 with the world premiere of a powerful Swedish film. The Beekeeper is a finely tuned story that captures life far from the noise of the big cities with great sensitivity. It is a film that stays with you, reminding us how the fragility between people can hold both pain and light, says Pia Lundberg, Artistic Director of the Göteborg Film Festival.
The Göteborg Film Festival has followed Marcus Carlsson’s filmmaking for many years and has screened a wide range of his films. These include the short film Dirtbags (2014), which won the Audience Award in Startsladden, and in 2018 the festival premiered his acclaimed feature film Love & Will.
— That The Beekeeper will have its world premiere as the opening film of the Göteborg Film Festival 2026 feels incredibly big and deeply honoring. I hope everyone will feel the quiet strength that Värmland has given the film. I am so grateful that it will now meet its audience, says Marcus Carlsson.
The screenplay is written by Marcus Carlsson and Adam Lundgren. In the remaining roles we see Hedvig Nilsson, Marika Lindström, Julia Schacht, Sara Arne, Judith Blix, Linnéa Cart-Lamy, Magnus Sundberg, Isabelle Grill, Mindie Mendel, Antti Reini, and Christina Lindberg.”
Keep an eye on our channels, we are currently planning to screen more films from the festival!
