In her work with Kiddo, Sophie Augot explores how today’s flows of information overload the body, leading to sensory overstimulation and passivity.
As a central theme of the piece, she investigates the relationship between physical isolation and psychological escapism. Starting from the body, she seeks ways to understand how our nervous systems and movement patterns interact.
Can a physical state be found that reflects the complexity and confusion of contemporary life? What does the mental space look like, and can its nature be translated to the stage?
Kiddo is a project that combines physical performance with vocal and musical elements.
In Kiddo’s universe, the sounds generated by the performer are processed into melodies that resonate through the body, triggering new sequences, tonalities, and choreographies.
Layers of echo are created in the moment, woven together in dialogue with other materials such as sampling, instrumentation, and live compositions developed in collaboration with composer Hans Appelqvist.
Memory and nostalgia play a key role in how Kiddo’s meaning-making unfolds. Enchanting and sometimes deceptive projections influence her perception of reality.
The dynamic of the piece is shaped by jarring repetition in contrast with rhythmic irregularity—flicker, fantasy, and paralysis. The musicality of the present moment.
Kiddo is a collaboration with composer Hans Appelqvist, lighting designer Mira Svanberg, and set/costume designer Daniel Åkerström-Steen.
