Workshop Thunderegg description

Sharon Estacio (US/PH/IT) and Giovanna Rovedo (IT) are longtime collaborators in the field of dance and artistic research. In the workshop Thunderegg they share their latest work, Orchestrating Spaces, a performative search and meditation on identity: i.e. human ways to belong in space and time, supported by a Perform Europe 2024-2025 grant. The partnership is currently on tour across Italy, Sweden, and Finland, and the participating artists invite local dance artists from the surrounding communities of Vitlycke – Centre for Performing Arts to join them for workshop Thunderegg on 31 July, from 10:00 to 14:00.

During this workshop, the participating dancers can briefly enter into some of the practices Sharon and Giovanna used to build the performance Orchestrating Spaces.

The first place we inhabit is the body. This boundary opens us up to all other possible spaces, from micro to macro in a layering that departs from every possible tiny universe, arriving at the bigger questions of the world we live in.

During the workshop we support the close connection between existence, contextual space and identity through movement and writing practices, building attention towards the space and the working group, moving between improvisation, observation and interdisciplinary tasks. The work encourages each person to find their own relationship between their sense of identity and the space they inhabit in that moment. The particularity of the individual is supported by the group dynamic as well as in pairs.

In light of the Perform Europe partnership focus on accessibility practices, our approach embraces researching how these tools can enter the creative practice.

About the Artists
As dance artists with backgrounds in anthropology and holistic health, Giovanna Rovedo and Sharon Estacio consider the body as agent, observer and soundboard of its context. Collaborating since 2015, their projects study and document the mobility and multiplicity of identity at transnational and transcultural levels, engaging their performative bodies to recognize the continuous evolution of identity related to their geographical and cultural borders. https://linktr.ee/balenagialla
