During this residency, Elnaz Paiamani and Sahar Taklimi will work on their new project Open Source.
The residency is organised in collaboration with Västra Götalandsregionen Kulturförvaltningen, Stora Teatern and with support of Västra Götalandsregionen Kulturförvaltning.
Open Source is a project explores the brain’s capacity for change—neuroplasticity—and how this can be expressed through movement. Using the dynamic language of dancehall and collaborating with dancers from Jamaica, Elnaz Paiamani and Sahar Taklimi are developing the project, currently working on an exploratory phase focused on engaging the audience.
The premiere of Open Source will take place on November 4, 2025 at Stora Teatern, Gothenburg and will be followed by a regional tour.
Elnaz Paiamani is a dancer, choreographer, and DJ with roots in Locking and Dancehall. Her artistic work explores human behavior and social structures, as seen in her debut piece Sanningen, jag svär! (“The Truth, I Swear!”), which examines truth and cancel culture in a polarized society. She is co-initiator of projects such as One Dancehall GBG, Spacet GBG, and the club concept JA Sessions, through which she works to strengthen the street dance and dancehall culture and build local cultural platforms in Gothenburg.
Sahar Taklimi is a dance artist and choreographer with over 20 years of experience in the dance and cultural industries. With a focus on Jamaican Dancehall, she has made a mark both in Sweden and internationally, where she continuously travels, teaches, and performs. She is the co-founder of the dance company Laces Creations, through which they have produced works addressing themes such as exclusion and cultural identity. Additionally, she is a co-founder of One Dancehall GBG, where she is committed to promoting and strengthening the presence of dancehall culture in Sweden.
