We are glad to welcome Rhizome Dance Collective with their new project to Vitlycke-CPA!
The project was selected for a production residency at Vitlycke-CPA through an open call in August 2024. This Open Call, organized by Vitlycke-CPA, offers a possibility to aspiring professional dancers, choreographers, stage artists and dance companies from Sweden to develop their creative work at Vitlycke-CPA.

Rhizome Dance Collective is a dance and performance collective consisting of 14 dance artists based across Europe. The collective functions in a rhizomatic way, meaning the work of the collective can occur in different constellations and variations: as individuals, smaller groups, and the larger group at the same time.

Rhizome works with questions of ecology, the climate crisis, sustainability and collectivity in both what we do as well as how we do it. We try to impose non hierarchical way of working with regenerative practices that often touches upon somatics, working in contact or embodying living natural (or imaginary) beings such as, for example, mountain, water or forest bodies. Through engaging in practices which can only be done together and not alone, Rhizome is confronting (ecological) crisis by proposing regeneration and resistance.

The collective was formed in the spring of 2022, after the members participated in the performance/exhibition Bergspråk and the symposium Dances and Songs of Earth, initiated by the curatorial duo DACE, in Boden and Luleå in northern Sweden. During this time there was also a collective residency at Dansinitiativet (Luleå, Sweden).
This was followed by residencies in February 2023 at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki (TeaK), which led to a public practice sharing at Vapaan Taiteen Tila, (Helsinki, Finland), in April 2024 at RedSapata, which ended with public showing in Sonnenstein Loft (Linz, Austria), followed by a residency in June at ccap (Stockholm, Sweden), where Rhizome shared their practices with the public through a performance as well as a workshop.
In 2025 Rhizome is planning to premiere their first collective performance in HandenterminalenKonst (Stockholm, Sweden)
