DANTE

Residency for Gunilla Heilborn and team for their new work Dante. The piece will premiere at Dansens Hus in Stockholm in March 2024. The week in Vitlycke is the second week in the process and will end with a public showing of the material they have developed so far; songs, dialogues, walking patterns and probably some fog.

Dante takes its staring point in and aims to be a performance piece about indecision, the Middle Ages, constant wanderings and conversations with people in other times.

“…a man, being just as hungry as thirsty, and placed in between food and drink, must necessarily remain where he is and starve to death. "
— Aristotle, On the Heavens 295b, c. 350 BC

Gunilla Heilborn
Gunilla Heilborn is a choreographer and filmmaker based in Stockholm. She is born in 1964 and has studied radio and film at Nordens Folkhögskola as well as choreography at DOCH in Stockholm and for Anna Halprin at the San Francisco Dancer’s workshop. Heilborn is interrested in history and how it speaks to us. She loves research, but is also happy to deal with the humor that comes from the failing of grand ideas In her works, Heilborn combines text, movement, video and images, always seasoned with an unmistakable dry humor.

Her most recent production is the solo Merkurius, which premiered at Norrlandsoperan in Umeå in November 2022. Before that, 37 hours & 3 minutes premiered at Elverket, Dansens Hus in Stockholm.

”Doubt and uncertainty find a place, next to the aforementioned trust in the universality of one’s own interest in stage form. The key to the latter lies in the work process and performance: the individual – the collective is almost always a theme, the form often a group work of unique performing artists.” -Dagens Nyheter about Gunilla’s artistry and 37 Hours and 3 Minutes.
