Three men, a pack of crayons and crazy pranks

A dancer stumbles onto the stage, seemingly tormented by stomach cramps. He moans and staggers forward, tumbling around and clutching onto his stomach. He falls to the floor with his hand still resting on his belly, when something emerges from his mouth. A teeny-tiny male figure peeks out through his lips…

Dan-su is a daring and surprising performance signed by the Swedish-Japanese company C/Ompany. Using humour and physical equilibrium in equal measure, they challenge all rules of dance and make the audience double over with laughter.

The three dancers perform violently acrobatic choreography with whimsical spontaneity. Accompanied by the howls, moans and exclamations in Japanese, they offer a sumptuous orgy of clowning and mayhem.

Dan-su is a playful work that puts both physical laws and cultural codes at risk. A wrestling match with Japanese stereotypes and the bewilderment that sometimes befalls us humans.

Shintaro Oue

Originally from Kyoto, Japan, Shintaro Oue studied dance and graduated from the Hamburg Ballet School in 1992. He has worked as a dancer for both the Nederlands Dansteater 2 and Cullberg Ballet. Since 1999, he has worked as a freelance artist.

In 2008, together with Masahiro Yanagimoto and Shintaro Hirahara, Oue formed the Swedish-Japanese dance company C/Ompany. They’ve since built a name for themselves through their comedic and dance works and have toured Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands.
