ECHO CHAMBER – work in progress exhibition at art gallery Lokstallet in Strömstad
Work in progress at the art gallery Lokstallet, in Strömstad, is an exhibition where, for one week, Luciano Goizueta’s works will be complemented with completely new art pieces. The gallery setting will change and transform from day to day, giving the visitors the possibility to observe the creative process, as the art is coming into being.
The exhibition is organized by Vitlycke-Centre for Performing Arts, in collaboration with art gallery Lokstallet in Strömstad.
Luciano Goizueta (Costa Rica)
Luciano Goizueta is a multidisciplinary artist based in San José, Costa Rica. Mainly recognized for his paintings, he also works with drawing, photography, assemblage, video and new technologies, looking for ways to interrelate them.
Since he was a child, he has been deeply interested in science and art. The scientific method, with its observations, hypotheses, predictions, experimentations and the analysis of the results, informs and grounds his artistic work.
Since his first exhibition in 2004, Goizueta has approached several themes subdivided into series that he revisits regularly. When these themes are reviewed, the illusion of “return” can be unearthed. In this sense memory, time and everyday life are elements that he uses to reflect about the core aspects of his production: the metadata of images that supports his production.
During his prolific career Goizueta has had more than eighty solo and group exhibitions displayed in galleries, museums, and art fairs within Costa Rica and abroad, among others in Pinta 09 Art Fair (New York), Shanghai Art Fair (China), and SCOPE (Basel, Switzerland). His work has been included in important public and private art collections.
He currently divides his time between his family, his career as a visual artist and the co-director of _temporal, a non-profit artistic space that promotes dialogue and artistic production in the city of San José.
Programme with Luciano Goizueta within GIBCA Extended
Luciano Goizueta’s artistic technique has evolved with the intent to reconstruct memories. Through his works, Goizueta tries to rescue the unreachable and recurs to photography as a time machine of our memories. He works with captured images like microscopic capsules that are flashes of an infinite sea, fragments of seconds disconnected from a reality that has ceased to exist. Goizueta uses photographs to anchor those memories to keep them from fading into oblivion.
Gouizueta’s work also deals with how the passage of time affects urban environments, specifically its decay. The emphasis is on objects that usually go unnoticed, but at the same time contain relevant information regarding places and people. They are more than just objects, they convey stories. Goizueta tries to rescue these objects by making them visible and taking them out of their original context.
The exhibition is organized as part of GIBCA Extended, regional network of Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art.
Organized with support of GIBCA Extended and Municipality of Strömstad.
