Open Call

Future Epics announces an open call for participation in the lab “Devised Theatre and performance” from 11th to 17th of November in Barcelona, Spain. The lab is organized by Tasca Projectes d’animació sociocultural, one of Future Epics partner organizations.

As the second out of three labs, Devised Theatre and Performance is an additional way of searching for topics that can be later used in the creative process and also a way of creating a team that could work on the final performances that will be presented at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in 2020.

The participants of the lab will be given an opportunity to work with Miriam Escurriola, actress, creator of theatre, television and radio shows, film maker and pedagogue. Learn more about Escurriola’s work here: http://www.miriamescurriola.com/

The narratives of Future Epics project are related to the cultural heritage in the widest context of this term, more specifically, reconstruction, reevaluation, deconstruction, relativization and creation of a tradition, in the sense of material and non-material cultural/historical heritage.

In the lab “Devised Theatre and Performance", the participants will be dealing with these topics by working on devised pieces, which is increasingly becoming an important and effective method of communicating and engaging audiences on contemporary social issues. Due to the nature of devising, the most effective way of developing ideas and skills in this area is to fully explore a wide and diverse range of techniques related to body, emotion, voice, text, music and video. This diversity of these areas of creation is essential to fully understand the exploratory nature of devising.

The lab in Barcelona will last for 6 days and it will result in a showcase during which the work of participants will be presented individually or collectively, depending on the group’s dynamics and affinities.

Jury will choose 6 participants in the lab (2 participants from Sweden). There is no fee for participation in the lab and the project will cover travel and accommodation costs for the participants from Sweden.
