HEAT (2018)

Heat is conceived as an ongoing project, the first edition: Heat #1: rising in da House will be performed at Tid for Dans Festival at Ælvespeilet Kulturhus, September 29th, 2018.

“Now I see that I will never find the light unless like the candle I am my own fuel consuming myself.” – Bruce Lee

HEAT is a research in what total devotion and dedication might be and mean physically, mentally, emotionally and choreographically. Through sharing the simple joy of moving our bodies to rythm, the project aims to promote the power and pleasure in physical effort, offering audiences an immersive group experience.

Through developing a common practice and understanding of physical, mental, energetic and emotional states, has choreographer Kari Hoaas together with a core group of eminent dancers, explored and developed various choreographic scores, searching for a common idea of generating energy that fuels a collective composition as basis for the performance. HEAT is a continuous developing performance practice, that at its core resists the notion of a finished work, to instead expose a state of research and process that acknowledge the very nature of our ever-changing bodies, energies and experiences moment by moment. The whole concept of HEAT resists and challenges the whole idea of a dance being a “finished product”, in order to instead propose the idea of a continous rediscovery of the “now” through a performance and choreography that evloves, responds and feeds off of each place it visits. The performance is conceived as a concert, with adapatable, reactive and responsive staging, lightingdesign and music options taylored for each different venue. The core group of dancers, guest performers and DJs will move in and out of the project, making for a singular distinctive performance experience every time.

Kari Hoaas Productions

Kari Hoaas Productions was established in 2005 by choreographer Kari Hoaas, upon returning to Oslo after a more than a decade working in New York City. Her complex and engaging performances allow for ambiguity and contradiction, while retaining a profoundly human expression connected to the larger culture. Her projects span from intimate solos to larger group pieces to site-specific performances. Kari Hoaas Productions has no full time staff, but engages dancers, artists and collaborators on a project basis. It is financed through a diversity of funding bodies, including co-productions and co-operations both nationally and internationally. Productions have been co-produced and toured in seventeen countries including all over the Nordic region, Europe, the Middle East, Caucasus, the US and Caribbean.
